A Few Weeks of Seeing Green

 Green Still Life #1

Thought I would add a photo reference until my drawing improves! The next 3 weeks I will be studying GREENS with some other painters online under an artist/teacher Vinita Pappas. She is fun to watch, and so far her ideas for lesson plans are fun and educational. Mixing greens is hard for watercolorists as tube greens can be harsh or garish. Mixing greens seems to be easy,  but not when you are out in a field needing something quick! So, you may see a few more green paintings in the next post or 2.

Purple Iris or an Elephant?

Last week 2 other artists and myself tried having our own workshop via internet while we stayed in our own studios. It was a great 3 days of painting with lessons learned all around. This is from my 3rd day at the easel. I was happy with this until my daughter came into my studio, tilted her head to the side and asked "Why did you paint an elephant?". Ugh. This painting was completed from a photo reference from my front yard of what I thought to be a stunning close-up of a purple iris. It makes TOTAL sense to me, but I guess sometimes beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder.
